On September 3, 2020 Russian Trade Representative in Pakistan Mr. M. Korablin held a working meeting with the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister of Pakistan for energy Mr. Shahzad Qasim. They discussed the possibility of Russian companies to participate in the development of the country's electric power infrastructure. Mr. Qasim said that at present the power generating capacities fully satisfy the needs of the country. It is also planned to launch additional power facilities in the next two years as the part of the China-Pakistan economic corridor project.

At the same time, the Pakistani side welcomes the participation of Russian companies (on a commercial basis) as «independent electricity suppliers» in the medium-term five-year perspective, meaning the creation of private energy companies on the territory of Pakistan with the subsequent sale of electricity to state and private companies of the country. There are also opportunities for cooperation at the level of interstate interaction, in particular on projects for the creation of energy facilities using renewable energy sources. The tentative agreement of organizing a business mission of Russian energy companies to Pakistan were achieved.
